Trimmers

Trimmers are potentiometers which need infrequent adjustment and they are often used to calibrate a device or circuit after manufacturing. They require a special tool for adjustment. Rheostats are two-terminal variable resistors which function similarly to a potentiometer. A three-terminal potentiometer can be used as a rheostat with the third terminal left unconnected, and is typically used as a strict variable resistor.
