Authorized channels are the unbroken chain of trust
- Shortages can encourage choosing “good enough” substitutes that are not equivalents
- Authorized channels like Avnet matter more when product authenticity is hard to verify
A recent paper published by the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA) states that the authorized channel matters now more than ever. Avnet endorses that statement because the value of authorized sourcing ultimately comes down to trust. Engineers and procurement professionals are being asked to move faster and make decisions with greater confidence and should remember that authorized sourcing is not simply a legacy channel preference, but a critical risk mitigation strategy.
Trust takes years to earn and only seconds to lose—especially when shortages, allocation or price increases create pressure in the market. Those are the moments when opportunists are most likely to step forward with what appears to be a credible solution.
Unless you have your own eyes on every process, there is simply no way of knowing where your components come from, or how they are stored, handled, and packaged before they arrive at your place of business. You take that on trust, and your distributor must be worthy of that trust.
At Avnet, we take that trust seriously. Our priority is simple: to act in the best interest of our partners by delivering authentic components with transparent pricing. We operate within a framework where manufacturers, distributors, and customers are connected through direct relationships that ensure product authenticity, quality assurance, and traceability from source to end application.
There are risks with sourcing outside of the authorized channel, and the ECIA paper explains them all.
Our North Star is to always do what is right. That means helping customers navigate challenging market conditions while continuing to protect the foundation of authorized, franchised distribution. I am proud of the work we do every day at Avnet to earn the trust of our partners and in helping show the value of authorized distribution.
