AI Performance at the Edge
The new family of AMD Versal™ AI Edge and Prime Series Gen 2 devices deliver single-chip intelligence for embedded systems.
AMD Versal™ AI Edge Series Gen 2 Adaptive SoCs
With flexible real-time processing, efficient AI inferencing and high-performance post-processing, the AMD Versal™ AI Edge Series Gen 2 adaptive SoCs provide end-to-end embedded system acceleration in a single device, reducing system complexity and accelerating deployment of AI designs at the edge.
Benefits:
- High-Performance Compute: Enhanced processing system offers up to 10X more scalar compute than first-generation Versal devices1 for complex and real-time decision making. Consolidating this functionality in a single chip reduces board space and lowers latency and power consumption.
- Next-Generation AI: The AIE-ML v2 up to 3X more TOPs/watt than the previous generation2, enabling high-performance AI inference with improved power efficiency.
- Functional Safety & Hardened Security: The processing chain of this adaptive SoC is targeted for ASIL-D/SIL3 designs, right from the accelerated processing unit (APU) through to the DDR5/LPDDR5 memory. The Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 provides enhanced embedded system security with a dedicated Application Security Unit and hardened post quantum crypto support.

Scalable Portfolio
This product architecture offers a range of solutions appropriate for simple, smaller AI embedded systems all the way up to complex industrial designs. In addition, the suite of development tools is used across the AMD portfolios, allowing developers to scale across a product line without having to change architectures, switch development tools, or rewrite application code.
AMD Versal™ Prime Series Gen 2 Adaptive SoCs
Offering high performance in a minimal footprint, AMD Versal™ Prime Series Gen 2 Adaptive SoCs have flexible, real-time sensor processing equipped to handle complex embedded computing workloads, making them ideal for video and sensor rich applications.
Benefits:
- High-Performance Compute: Enhanced processing system offers up to 10X more scalar compute than first-generation Versal devices1 for complex and real-time decision making. Consolidating this functionality in a single chip reduces board space and lowers latency and power consumption.
- System Efficiency: Hardened video, 100G Ethernet, PCIe® Gen5, and DDR5/LPDDR5 IP enable space- and power-efficient integration in a single device.
- Next-Level Video Processing: Equipped with up to 2 dedicated video codec units (VCUs) each with hardened AVC/HEVC encoding and decoding of video streams up to 4k60/8k60 (Versal Prime 2VM3654 device only), Versal Prime Series Gen 2 Adaptive SoCs are the silicon platform of choice for the development of multi-channel 4K and 8K content capture, production and distribution equipment.

1 Based on the combined total DMIPs of the Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 and Versal Prime Series Gen 2 processing systems when configured with 8 Arm Cortex-A78AE applications cores @2.2 GHz and 10 Arm Cortex-R52 real-time cores @1.05 GHz, compared to the published combined total DMIPs of the processing systems in the respective first generation Versal AI Edge Series and Versal Prime Series. Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 and Prime Series Gen 2: Highest available speed grade, 0.88V PS operating voltage, split-mode operation, maximum supported operating frequency. First generation Versal AI Edge Series and Prime Series operating conditions: Highest available speed grade, 0.88V PS operating voltage, maximum supported operating frequency. Results may vary based on configuration and operating conditions. (VER-104)
2 Based on AMD internal performance and power projections for the AIE-ML v2 compute tile architecture in the Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 using the MX6 data type, compared to performance specifications and AMD Power Design Manager power results for the AIE-ML compute tile architecture featured in the first-generation Versal AI Edge Series using INT8 data type. Assumptions: 2 row, 8 column sub-arrays. Operating conditions: 1 GHz Fmax, 0.7V AIE operating voltage, 100°C junction temperature, typical process, 60% vector load, % activations = 0 < 10%. Actual performance will vary when final products are released in market. Performance projections as of March 2024. (VER-023)
