This reference design is a fully functional Single Cylinder Engine Control unit (ECU). This engine control module features the Freescale 33812 and a 9S12P128 MCU device. The 33812 is an analog power IC intended for motorcycle and other single/dual cylinder small engine control applications. The 9S12P128 MCU provides a cost effective 16-bit MCU solution. Additionally, this reference design can be configured for dual cylinder, the application must be able to tolerate simultaneous spark in both cylinders.

  • Designed to operate over the range of ~4.9 V = VPWR = 18 V
  • MC9S12P128 has 128 KB of flash memory w/ECC, 6 KB of RAM, 4 KB of data flash w/ECC, 12-bit ADC, USB base BDM tool
  • MCU is coded to perform the complete engine control functionality
  • MCU can be recoded for parameter tables and engine customization
  • ECU S/W fully supports the reference design H/W
  • Monitors and controls all required inputs and outputs for a single/dual cylinder ECU (incl. O2 heater, Throttle motor, MAP, TPS, VRS, TEMP, TILT)
  • Fuel injector driver - current limit - 4.0 A typical
  • Relay driver - current limit - 4.0 A typical (fuel pump, vehicle battery supply)
  • Lamp driver- current limit - 1.5 A typical (check engine light)
  • ISO-9141 K-Line transceiver for communicating diagnostic messages
  • The reference design can easily migrate to the S12XS or S12XE MCU families
