Ultra-Wideband (UWB) is a wireless connectivity technology that uses very high frequency radio waves to communicate with other UWB-equipped devices. It has precise, secure, real-time localization capabilities, making it ideal for automotive applications.
The digital key sends short pulses to the car, making a precise distance calculation in real time. As the driver gets closer to his vehicle, the welcome light will automatically turn on, the seat position will adjust, the door will unlock, and so on, all while his smartphone is in his pocket.
The mobile device creates and stores the digital key in the security module, providing the highest level of protection against hardware- or software-based attacks. Vehicle positioning is transmitted to certified mobile devices, authorising only the user to access and drive the vehicle.
NXP’s NCJ29D5 UWB ICs are designed to meet the connectivity and functional safety requirements of the global automotive industry. It complies with the CCC3.0 specification, a worldwide cross-industry standard which turns the smartphone into a full digital key, allowing for truly hands-free car access.
