Electric Vehicle Charging

Main Title

The new transport infrastructure

Intro - MM

There is continued growth in the new global infrastructure for EV charging. This infrastructure, built to support e-mobility, and supported by public funds and private investment, is growing at an astounding rate. This is generating big challenges but even bigger opportunities for anyone looking to enter the market.

As more consumers move to electric vehicles, demand for private and public charging points is seeing average sustained growth of around 30% CAGR across multiple regions. Even so, supply needs to step up to meet demand.

This scenario means huge opportunities across the globe for manufacturers looking to increase production or to enter the market. Every region is different and as a global company Avnet understands the needs of your customers. Avnet will work with you, helping you bring your solutions to your market.

Avnet has a global insight into the way the EV charging infrastructure is developing across the world. As our subject matter experts explain in the white paper, not all regions are developing in the same way or as quickly. While EV charging develops, the structure of this new vertical market is already well defined. It pivots on the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) manufacturer. These are served by three tiers of supplier: offering complete systems, sub-systems and modules, and the components themselves.

Avnet has further refined the market into functions, covering grid access through to supervisory. As this image shows, finding the best solution for each of these functions is critical to success. Read our whitepaper now (no registration required).

The EV charging infrastructure depends on the vendors developing EVSE solutions. The EVSE forms part of the charge point, the physical and virtual interface between the infrastructure and the electric vehicle. It is a complex piece of equipment that must combine a secure user interface and intuitive operation with safe access to high voltage power.

Charge points must also be commercial. Charge Point Operators (CPOs) need to understand what its market needs, what kind of EVSE they should deploy and how to manage a network of charge points.

Avnet is working with the suppliers supporting this complex value chain. This includes systems integrators and module manufacturers, and extends to the integrated device manufactures, cable and connector companies, and display manufacturers.

To help its customers find the right solution, Avnet now offers a linecard detailing key suppliers in each tier of each function, as outlined above and covered in more detail in our white paper. This linecard gives engineers faster access to the suppliers that offer the right solution for their EVSE.
