F5728 - Renesas’s state-of-the-art mmWave beamforming IC

Description - 202309S1

The new, highly integrated F5728 is a 24.25GHz to 29.5GHz band mmWave up/down Converter IC for intermediate frequency (IF) signals in the 2 GHz to 7 GHz range and operates on a classic Tx and Rx real-IF heterodyne architecture to upconvert IF signals. Integral in 5G beamforming phased arrays and massive MIMO applications.

The F5728 has array scalability for output drive, low DC power consumption for greater system efficiency and compatibility with low-complexity PCB integrated multipliers.

It employs classic heterodyne mixing and two frequency doublers for both 2x or 4x multiplications. The ports allow for easy integration to signal chains with single-ended 50 Ohm ports. While the receive chain delivers 22 dB of conversion gain with a 7 dB noise figure and 25 dB conversion gain in transmit mode. The F5728 is controlled via a high-speed SPI interface and can be attached to the F5728EVS evaluation kit for assessing device performance in specific applications.
