In our last feature, we highlighted how an efficient and reliable battery management system (BMS) is essential for the optimal performance of applications like electric cars and energy storage systems. In particular, BMS for automotive usage must be able to meet critical features such as voltage, temperature and current monitoring, battery state of charge (SoC), and cell balancing of lithium-ion batteries.
The cell monitoring unit (CMU), an important component of NXP BMS, serves these functions, including sampling voltage and temperature of the cell and performing the balancing function. Precise measurements are relayed to the Battery Management Unit (BMU) to make informed decisions that ensure battery safety and improve performance.
NXP provides a complete High Voltage BMS solution, including safety support and reduced development cost for customers.
