The 3kW ACDC Analog Power Supply Unit (PSU) uses the industry’s first mixed signal controller NCP1681 for Totem Pole PFC, delivering exceptional performance with a compact footprint. This high-efficiency solution integrates ON Semiconductor’s advanced Totem Pole PFC and resonant controller technologies to meet the rigorous demands of data centers, industrial equipment and offline power systems.

At its core, the PSU combines the NCP1681 Totem Pole PFC controller and the NCP4390 PWM & Synchronous Rectifier (SR) COMBO controller, a powerful analog pairing that streamlines power conversion. Engineered around SiC and Super Junction MOSFETs, this design offers Titanium-level efficiency, compact integration and cost-effective scalability.

Built on a Totem Pole PFC topology, this 3kW PSU eliminates the input diode bridge for higher efficiency. The NCP1681 controller supports Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM), Critical Conduction Mode (CrM) and valley switching, while the NCP4390 enables accurate, low-noise secondary-side control with synchronous rectification. It achieves up to 96.9% efficiency at 230Vac (50% load) and maintains >0.99 power factor and <5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), ensuring stable and reliable power. Its compact size of 262mm x 105mm x 31mm PCB fits easily into tight spaces.

The solution also supports a >0.99 power factor at >10% load and maintains <5% THD above 20% load, well aligned with the most demanding industrial standards, delivering high power density and thermal performance.

By replacing MCU-based designs with analog control, this solution reduces design complexity, lowers BOM cost and speeds up development. With the NCP1681 and NCP4390 working in sync, the solution can meet today’s power demands without compromising efficiency, reliability or scalability.
