RPR-0730: Laser-Based Sensor for High-Speed Proximity Detection
With ultra-fast 0.2ms response and 0.1mm precision, the RPR-0730 enables reliable proximity sensing in compact consumer devices such as printers, as well as in industrial automation equipment.
The RPR‑0730 from ROHM is a reflective photosensor designed to detect the presence or movement of nearby objects using a VCSEL light source and a phototransistor. With industry-leading specifications such as a 0.2ms max response time and the ability to detect objects as fine as 0.1 mm, it is well-suited for dynamic detection environments.
Its compact form factor—just 2.0 × 1.0 × 0.55 mm—allows it to be embedded in tight spaces, making it ideal for space-constrained devices like printers, multi-function peripherals (MFPs), and consumer appliances, as well as for industrial applications such as motor position detection or high-speed part sensing on conveyor systems.
Unlike traditional IR LEDs, the integrated VCSEL ensures strong directionality and stable light output even under temperature variations, minimizing false detections and enhancing overall reliability.
Whether it’s label gap detection in printing systems or fine edge sensing in factory automation, the RPR‑0730 delivers the precision and speed required to meet the demands of today’s smart, compact, and responsive equipment.
