FFSD——.050" Low Profile Tiger Eye™ IDC Ribbon Cable Assembly

Samtec IDC cable assemblies are popular among its customers. These electrical connectors use sharpened blades to pierce cable insulation and connect to conductors, eliminating pre-stripping of wires. They offer key advantages: fast, easy mass termination (no individual stripping, crimping or soldering), lower labor costs, ruggedness (body clips lock top to base, optional cable strain relief) and reliability (properly made blades cold-weld to conductors for gas-tight connections). Samtec provides multiple board-level IDC systems, emphasizing cost-efficiency, reliability and ruggedness.
Samtec IDC connectors ensure reliable contact via the Tiger Eye™ contact—its multi-finger design (e.g., 4 contact points on FFSD assemblies), heat-treated Beryllium Copper (BeCu) base (excellent spring properties for high mating cycles) and smooth flat mating surfaces (reduce plating stress, lower contact resistance, extend plating life) suit high-reliability needs. For ruggedness, most have side locks/strain relief clips (keep cap and base connected when unplugged, protect terminations), optional strain relief (shields cables from pull/bend stress) and ejector headers (board-level terminal strips with end clips for secure mating and damage-free removal, plus shrouding and polarization).
The FFSD is a low profile IDC socket for high-reliability applications. A dual row, .050" (1.27 mm) pitch connector, the FFSD utilizes Samtec's Tiger Eye™ terminals which feature a multi-finger contact system for reliability in tough conditions.
