A digital potentiometer is an integrated chip variable resistor which functions like a mechanical potentiometer. In digipot the resistance values are modified by passing the digital signals instead of physical movement of a shaft or slide for adjustment. It is often used for trimming and scaling analog signals by microcontrollers.
