PHYs
PHY stands for PHYsical layer which connects a link layer device like a MAC (Medium Access Controller) to a physical medium such as an optical fiber or copper cable. PHY devices typically include both Physical Coding Sublayer (PCS) and Physical Medium Dependent (PMD) layer functionality.
