Smart cockpit solution based on the Infineon automotive WiFi 6/6E and TRAVEO™ T2G automotive MCU

Integration of Multiple Technologies Heralds a New Era in Smart Healthcare

The car cockpit includes both the driver and passenger seats in the car. A smart cockpit refers to a cockpit equipped with intelligent and network-connected automotive devices able to interact with users, the road, and the car itself, and represents an important link and key node in the evolution of the relationship between humans and automotives, with automotives transforming from being a tool to a partner.

As integrations between wireless communications, AI computing, and multimodal interaction technologies lead to further breakthroughs, the smart cockpit has not only changed the internal layout of automotives, but propelled the automotive industry into a broad transition towards electric, network-connected, and intelligent vehicles.

Industry research institutions predict that the global smart cockpit market will become worth more than US$60 billion in 2025, showing the industry’s huge market potential. Against this backdrop, Avnet has rolled out a smart cockpit solution which incorporates the Infineon automotive WiFi 6/6E & Bluetooth two-in-one integrated chip (CYW89570XR) wireless module and the Infineon TRAVEO™ T2G automotive MCU.

This solution is capable of enabling a wide variety of informational displays and entertainment experiences. It also possesses wireless connection functionality and advanced human-machine interfaces (touch, voice). Its advanced cybersecurity protections can protect user privacy and defend against external attacks when connected to a network. The overall system solution includes the Infineon TRAVEO™ T2G automotive MCU, automotive Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® two-in-one integrated chip, security IC, memory solutions, and power supply devices, enabling next-generation designs and powerful automotive connection functions.

Description of core devices:

Automotive MCU: The MCU used is the CYT4BB series from Infineon’s TRAVEO™ T2G family, which supports the dual-core 250 MHz Arm® Cortex®-M7, and the Arm® Cortex®-M0+ for encryption. It is equipped with an I/D cache, 4 MB flash, 256 KB work flash, and 768 KB SRAM of storage. The electrical supply voltage ranges from 2.7 V to 5.5 V, and the MCU features an 8-channel CAN FD interface, 11-channel SCB, 16-channel LIN-UART, eMMC, SMIF, and 10/100 ethernet. It also possesses superior audio capabilities due to its I2S/TDM with Tx 3-ch and Rx 3-ch. Packages range from the 100-pin TEQFP, 144-pin TEQFP, and 176-pin TEQFP to the 272-ball BGA.

Connectivity and communications: The automotive wireless system solution uses the CYW89570XR module. The AIROC™ CYW89570XR is a family of devices that supports 2x2 + 2x2 RSDB, dual-band/tri-band networks, IEEE 802.11ax-compliant Wi-Fi 6/6E, and Bluetooth®/Bluetooth® Low Energy 6.0 with LE Audio.

The CAN transceiver used is the TLE9255WLC, which is packaged in a tiny TSON-14 and supports CAN Partial Networking (CAN PN) and CAN FD up to 2 Mbit/s. It features a CAN FD tolerance mode and wake-up frame detection.

Power supply: Infineon's SBC (TLE9273QX) and PMIC power products are used to supply reliable power to the system. The USB-C PD controller supports fast charging (up to 100W) and possesses outstanding interoperability. It is compatible with a wide range of mobile devices.

Storage: The S25FL512S is a Quad-SPI (QSPI) NOR flash memory product based on Infineon’s proprietary MIRRORBIT™ technology. The device is automotive-ready, and is AEC-Q100 qualified up to +125°C. It comes in a range of different density and pin-count packaging options.
