Microchip’s long-range low-power end node solution

The RN2483 and RN2903 are revolutionary end-node solutions that enable extremely long-range (up to 15 km), bidirectional communication with years of battery life for Internet of Things (IoT), Machine-to-Machine (M2M), smart city and industrial applications.

The RN2483 is a fully certified LoRa® technology modem for the European 433/868 MHz bands, and the RN2903 modem is for the 915 MHz North American band. Both modems come with the LoRaWAN™ Class A protocol stack, so they can easily connect with the rapidly expanding infrastructure driven by the LoRa Alliance to create Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWANs), both as privately managed scalable deployments or telecom-operated public networks with nationwide coverage. Due to the long range of LoRa technology, these modems are able to operate without repeaters, reducing the total cost of ownership. Additionally, both the RN2483 and RN2903 are fully certified which saves significant certification costs and reduces time to market.

The WINC1500-MR210PB is a low-power consumption 802.11 b/g/n IoT (Internet of Things) module, which is specifically optimized for low power IoT applications. The highly integrated module has a small form factor (21.5mm x 14.5mm x 2.1mm) while fully integrating Power Amplifier, LNA, Switch, Power Management, and PCB antenna. With seamless roaming capabilities and advanced security, it is interoperable with various vendors’ 802.11b/g/n Access Points in wireless LAN. The module provides SPI and UART to interface to host controller.

The SAMW25 module is based on the WINC1500 Wi-Fi core combined with the latest ARM® Cortex®-M0+ based microcontroller technology. The SAMW25 is a low-power Wi-Fi certified module. This highly integrated module offers the ideal solution for designers seeking Wi-Fi connectivity. The SAMW25 integrates 802.11 IP stack on top of the Wi-Fi core and fully covers RF certifications. This turnkey system provides an integrated software solution with application and security protocols such as TLS and integrated network services (TCP/IP stack).

Both WINC1500-MR210PB and the SAMW25 open the door to the Internet of Things for a vast array of battery-powered devices and applications requiring the integration of WLAN connectivity without compromising on cost and power consumption.

Microchip’s ultra-low power, small form factor Bluetooth solutions

Microchip has the industry’s broadest range of Bluetooth certified solutions for your embedded design. The SAMB11-MR210CA and the BTLC1000-MR110CA are Microchip’s newest Bluetooth Low Energy solutions. The SAMB11-MR210CA is an ultra-low power Bluetooth® SMART (BLE 4.1) module with integrated MCU, Transceiver, Modem, MAC, PA, TR Switch, and Power Management Unit (PMU). It is a standalone Cortex®-M0 applications processor with embedded Flash memory and BLE connectivity. The BTLC1000-MR110CA is an ultra-low power Bluetooth® SMART (BLE 4.1) module with Integrated Transceiver, Modem, MAC, PA, TR Switch, and Power Management Unit (PMU) that can be used as a Bluetooth Low Energy link controller or data pump with external host MCU.

Both the SAMB11-MR210CA and BTLC1000-MR110CA have the qualified Bluetooth Smart protocol stack stored in dedicated ROM, and the firmware includes L2CAP service layer protocols, Security Manager, Attribute protocol (ATT), Generic Attribute Profile (GATT), and the Generic Access Profile (GAP). Additionally, application profiles such as Proximity, Thermometer, Heart Rate, Blood Pressure, and many others are supported and included in the protocol stack.

The SAMB11-MR210CA and the BTLC1000-MR110CA modules contain all circuitry required. The customer simply needs to place the module on the board, provide power and a 32 KHz Real Time Clock or crystal. Both modules provide a cost-effective solution for many Bluetooth Smart based applications by integrating the Bluetooth Low Energy Radio and Baseband with an ARM® Cortex® M0-based microcontroller. The need for very few external components minimizes the total system solution cost.
