Solutions for electrical vehicles and energy storage systems

Pulse Electronics offers full Line of isolation transformers and common mode chokes for small to large battery pack systems for serial port safety isolation and EMI noise rejection application. In large battery pack applications with daisy chain connections, the number of cells connected in series is very high, and the large voltage differences demand component-to-component isolation. The serial communication links between boards need to be isolated by transformer coupling circuits instead of capacitor coupling.

Current sense transformers

PA1005 series

The PA1005.XXXQNLT series high frequency current sense transformer is AEC-Q200 qualified and offers a frequency range of 50kHz to 1MHz and a low-profile SMD package with a 5.5mm height profile. This series expands on existing Pulse products and offer high reliability for on-board charging and DC/DC or DC/AC power supply applications.

Whether automotive, manufacturing, industrial, or energy conversion applications, the adoption of Pulse AEC-Q200 products helps to reduce adoption risk, improve quality, and ultimately maximize the customer experience in any end application.

Applications:

The vehicle AC charging inlet requires an on-board AC/DC charger with power factor correction. The PA1005.XXXQNL current transformer is used in series with the boost switch to sense the current in the inductors at the power factor correction stage.

High isolation transformers

PH9185 series

The Industrial communications bus can have multiple access points spread over a wide distance. Large ground loops and electrically noisy environments can create hazardous volt-ages which have implications for operator safety, protection of peripheral devices, and preserving the communications performance. Signal isolation can be built into the IC, however for higher isolation and efficiency an external isolated power supply is still required to power the transceiver, and the Pulse PH9185 series is ideally suited for this purpose.

The transformers operate in a fixed duty cycle push-pull topology that delivers lower power (up to 3W) from a low voltage source and a working voltage up to 4000V, with 5000V isolation and only 8mm creepage.
