nanoRISC Modules

The nanoRISC® module standard has been created for applications requiring a small form factor and lowest power consumption. These modules can be used as a processing supercomponent, while users only need to add application-specific periphery.

New! MSC nanoRISC-IMX6. The design of the nanoRISC®IMX6 module is based on the NXP®Cortex™ A9 CPU offering high performance, lowest power consumption and a high degree of functional integration for high level embedded applications. The i.MX6x processor is combined with DDR3 SDRAM, SLC NAND Flash, 10/100/1000Mbit Ethernet LAN and a power management controller (PMIC). Due to their pin compatibility and the usability of various CPUs - the current range is from Cortex-A8 derivatives clocked at 300 MHz up to 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9 multi-cores - the nanoRISC® module family offers a high degree of scalability.

nanoRISC® is a module concept combining the latest low power RISC controllers and embedded interfaces on a small form factor COM (Computer On Module). Ideally suited for embedded applications, a variety of easy-to-use interfaces are available.

The nanoRISC® form factor has been created for applications requiring a small form factor and lowest power consumption. nanoRISC® modules will be plugged onto an application-specific baseboard.

The design of the nanoRISC® IMX6 module is based on the NXP® Cortex™ A9 CPU offering high performance, lowest power consumption and a high degree of functional integration for high level embedded applications. The design of the nanoRISC® AM335X module is based on the new Texas Instruments® Cortex™-A8 CPU offering a wide performance range, lowest power consumption and a high degree of functional integration for entry level embedded applications. The AM335X processor is combined with DDR3 SDRAM, SLC NAND Flash and a power management controller (PMIC). Optionally, the module can be used with 2x 10/100 LAN or even GbE LAN.

The module is available in commercial and extended temperature range. Support for Linux and Windows CE is available.

The evaluation platform MSC nanoRISC® MB2 offers a variety of interfaces commonly used in embedded applications such as LAN, USB, UARTs, Audio and Graphics RGB 18/24 Bit and extension connectors for graphics and for general interfaces such as SATA, PCIe, CAN (CPU I/O), Local Bus, I²C and SPI. In addition Touch Controllers for Projected Capacitive Touches (PCT) and for Resistive Touches are provided. An SD Card socket is supported to enhance the usability and functionality of the nanoRISC®motherboard.

The nanoRISC form factor has been created forapplications requiring a small form factor and lowest power consumption. nanoRISC modules will be plugged onto an application-specific baseboard. The nanoRISC Evaluation and Development Kit is a complete, ready-to-run Starterkit für MSC's range of nanoRISC processor modules. It consists of the nanoRISC Embedded Platform Board MB2, a suitable Power Supply and a 7-inch WVGA Display and a suitable Debug Adapter. The nanoRISC module of choice and the appropriate SD Card with pre-installed Linux Operating System must be ordered separately. The complete BSP (Board Support Package) and further Drivers and Tools can be downloaded from the MSC FTP server. Users can select any nanoRISC processor module and use it with the Starterkit. The resulting hardware will then be immediately ready for use.

Customization

Avnet Integrated offers customization of its standard modules according to the requirements of the customers. This will help to achieve required price points for volume projects by not populating components which are not required, i.e. less memory or less controllers of unnecessary functionality. In addition, Avnet Integrated offers to assemble Computer-on-Modules on carrier boards, optionally with suitable cooling and with memory modules inserted.
