Blood pressure monitors

Home blood pressure monitoring could help your doctor diagnose high blood pressure earlier than if you have only infrequent blood pressure readings in the doctor's office.Blood-pressure measurement devices typically include pressure sensors, microcontrollers, displays, battery management systems and communication interfaces, which are either wired (for example, USB) or wireless (for example, BLE). All monitors have the same basic parts — an inflatable cuff or strap, a gauge for readouts, and sometimes a stethoscope, depending on the type of monitor you choose. 

Patient monitors

Patient monitors offer a range of options for flexible care, including a portable bedside monitor, compact patient monitor, and vital signs monitor

The essential elements of an electronic patient monitor are a processor or an embedded computing platform, which in new designs usually contain ARM® cores as CPUs. EBV Elektronik has ARM-based microcontrollers from some ten semiconductor manufacturers in its programme but also works with module manufacturers. The microcontrollers cover most external interfaces such as USB and Ethernet, respectively, for the input side, and there are appropriate modules for Bluetooth, WLAN, etc. The patient parameters are recorded via measurement modules, such as pulse oximeters or external blood pressure cuffs.

Portable ECG

Portable electro-cardiograph (ECG) devices require special multi-channel front-ends. Stationary appliances for professional use, work with a minimum of eight channels while portable ECG devices usually use four channels

Front-end chips filter out the signals from the ambient noise and perform the appropriate preparation of the signals, the A/D conversion and adaptation to the digital interface to the microcontroller. EBV Elektronik has suitable front-end chips with 1-8 channels in its programme together with appropriate application processors. In addition it covers the power and the battery management, the display and the communications interface.

Pulse oximeter

Pulse oximetry is a procedure used to measure the oxygen level (or oxygen saturation) in the blood

It is considered to be a noninvasive, painless, general indicator of oxygen delivery to the peripheral tissues (such as the finger, earlobe, or nose).Typical components of a pulse oximeter include LEDs and photo-receivers, analog front-end elements (sometimes as a single-chip solution), microcontrollers, displays and communications interfaces such as USB or BLE.

Pulse watches

Heart rate monitors that display their results on a special wristwatch, usually use wireless solutions available in the sub-GHz area, based on the ANT and ANT+ technologies

ZigBee can also be used for communication between the measurement belt and the heart rate monitor. BLE is seen as the future standard solution, because it is supported by popular smartphones. EBV Elektronik supports its customers in the product design throughout the entire signal chain up to the HMI (Human Machine Interface) or to the interface to smartphones. It is therefore concerned with components such as operational amplifiers (Op-Amps), A/D converters, components for the radio link, microcontrollers, displays, battery management, etc. High-end products also involve mobile radio and GPS modules.


Healthcare thermometers range differs from low cost instruments, like forehead temperature indicator up to high tech infrared forehead and ear thermometers

Infrared healthcare thermometers are ideal for use with babies and small children as they are non contact, non invasive instruments, which will cause minimal distress for the patient during body temperature monitoring. Take a temperature sensor, an A/D converter, an integrated low-power microcontroller, a battery management IC and a small display, connect these properly, programme the MCU and there you have it: a simple thermometer. EBV Elektronik advises its clients on both the design of a simple thermometer and on complex thermosensor design. Hypothermia thermometers when used correctly will help ensure that the ambient room temperature is kept within safe and acceptable limits.
