Universal Asynchronous Receiver-Transmitters (UART) are standalone integrated circuits, that are designed to convert parallel bits into serial bits or convert serial bits into parallel bits. They are used for serial communications that contains a receiver (serial-to-parallel converter) and a transmitter (parallel-to-serial converter).
