ATM IMA

Inverse multiplexing for ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) defines a protocol which supports in the introduction of new ATM link rates between traditional lower rates such as DS1 and E1 and higher rates such as DS3 and E3. A typical IMA configuration involves the implementation of NxT1/NxE1 access lines with a single virtual link. This virtual link is configured to provide a link rate equal to the sum of the physical links interconnecting two nodes that supports IMA.
