Gas Discharge Tubes

A gas discharge tube (GDT) is a sealed device with a glass enclosure and contains a gas mixture between two electrodes. It operates by ionizing the gas with an applied voltage sufficient to cause electrical conduction. It follows the principle related to electric discharge in gases. GDT provides high voltage transient surge protection in devices and are designed to dissipate large amounts of energy. It is used to protect sensitive equipment from hazardous transient voltages.
