Recognized for Innovative Mobile Access and Real-time Pricing System
PHOENIX -- Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), a leading global technology distributor, today announced it has been named to the InformationWeek 500, marking the fifth consecutive year that Avnet has been recognized among the top 100 innovative information technology (IT) users. Avnet ranked 55 overall on the list in 2008, moving up 13 places from 2007. InformationWeek selected Avnet for this honor based on the development and deployment of mobile access to its back office systems for employees and real-time pricing systems to address the needs of its customers.
For the past 20 years, InformationWeek has identified and honored the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual listing. The list is unique among corporate rankings because it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology.
"Avnet is dedicated to creating new IT tools that not only focus on achieving business goals, but also accelerate the success of our customers and partners," said Steve Phillips, chief information officer at Avnet. "We're honored that InformationWeek has recognized the benefits of Avnet's technology innovation, further demonstrating their value to the technology supply chain."
Avnet was recognized for the development of a unique system to create real-time access to pricing information for its enterprise technology partners. On average Avnet receives approximately four million price permutations nightly from manufacturers. Leveraging its service-oriented architecture (SOA), Avnet built a rules engine and web portal that serves as a user-friendly interface for customers to obtain real-time pricing.
Additionally, InformationWeek honored Avnet for its mobile access tool, which enables Avnet's electronic components sales force to have remote access to sophisticated back office business tools and information while working remotely to help during the sales process. This new mobile access not only revolutionized how Avnet's sales team does business while traveling and interfacing with customers, but also generated significant savings from increased efficiencies.
"For 20 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology," said InformationWeek Editor-in-Chief Rob Preston. "Year after year, InformationWeek 500 companies harness technology to improve efficiency, boost productivity, drive revenue, and establish a competitive advantage. We applaud this year's winners, and the CIOs and other executives whose ingenuity and risk taking are at the center of business technology innovation."
