The 3 W's of the ASU Innovation Open & Why Student Entrepreneurs Should Care

Are you ready to see your peers flex their innovation muscles for a chance to win $100,000?

You may be wondering what all the talk of the 2017 ASU Innovation is all about and why you should care. Here are the 3 W’s and the most exciting part is there are 100,000 reasons why you should care, read on...

W #1 - The What!
The Innovation Open is a technology competition that rewards technology and innovation, powered by Avnet, a leading technology firm along with ASU’s Ira A. Fulton’s Schools of Engineering./p>

The Innovation Open provides critical venture mentorship and funding for student competitors who are launching a wide range of enterprises, including new hardware and software inventions that advance innovation within a variety of cutting-edge marketplaces.

W #2 - The Who!
Just who exactly is this competition for? It is for students who are tech-savvy, and who have a passion for using technology and innovation to change the world. It’s for competitive academic technologists!

Sounds fun, but what’s the catch? The only catch is that a majority of each venture's membership/equity must be currently enrolled in an accredited University undergraduate or graduate program at the time the ASU Innovation Open Demo Day event, scheduled for Sunday, April 2nd. Easy!

W #3 - The When!
January 22 - Application Deadline: All applicants had to create and submit a five minute video pitch and submit it via the ASU Open application portal by Sunday, January 22 at 11:59 pm MST.

January 27 - The Video Pitch Q&A Telephone Conference: to be held Friday, January 27. All eligible applicants will be evaluated by entrepreneur evaluators and 15 competitors will advance to next stage.

February 3 - The 5 Semi-Finalists evaluated by VIP judges: 15 semi-finalist competitors will be evaluated by a panel of VIP judges at the VIP Pitch Playoffs on Friday, February 3 at ASU SkySong in Scottsdale. These judges will select up to 5 Finalists to advance within the competition.

February 4 - Fifteen Finalists enjoy the VIP Experience at the Waste Management Open Golf Tournament: Two co-founders from each team are invited to join Avnet for a VIP experience at the golf event on Saturday, February 4.

April 1 - Four Finalists will enjoy a VIP Experience at the NCAA Final Four event. Additional details coming soon!

April 2 - ASU Innovation Open Demo Day: Four finalist competitors pitch live on stage and are evaluated by Title and Co-Sponsor judges. Collectively, the judges will select one $100K Grand Prize winner at the end of the day on Sunday, April 2, 2017. (Note all semi-finalist must participate in the live pitch round to be eligible).

These 3 W’s answer many of the questions about the 2017 ASU Innovation Open. There is $100,000 up for grabs, plus amazing innovations will get the exposure they deserve in front of audiences who matter!
