Avnet’s U.S. interns set new record at St. Mary's Food Bank
Avnet's U.S.-based summer interns embraced Avnet's core values as they organized and packaged food for the hungry at St. Mary's Food Bank in Phoenix, Ariz., on May 22, 2014. All 48 volunteers sparkled with enthusiasm as they practiced teambuilding, and even set a new record for packing the most boxes of food in just four hours. Together, the group provided more than 6,000 meals to hungry families of four, and earned a $2,400 contribution to St. Mary's Food Bank through the Avnet Cares Dollars for Doers program. The interns were thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase their spirit for community service through the Avnet Cares program.
"Any time I get the chance to make a difference, I always take it with gratitude," said Jeremy Egwu, marketing and strategy acceleration intern. "Going to St. Mary's Food Bank with the other interns on behalf of Avnet Cares was a great opportunity. I think it's awesome that we can come together to provide food for families who are in need. Although Avnet is a large company, it's admirable that they truly care about the community and are always looking for opportunities to make a difference."
There is a common theme amongst Avnet employees; they have a passion for helping others and giving back to the communities in which they live, work and play. The summer interns quickly picked up on this theme and how it aligns with Avnet's ongoing commitment to its employees.
