The Annual Avnet Tech Games provides the perfect setting for high school students enrolled in SPOT 127, a metro-Phoenix area youth media program, to show-off their journalism and video production skills by participating in the event as journalists. Select SPOT 127 students receive full press access to cover the games with the challenge of producing multimedia packages including video, audio and written storytelling.
This year, six teams of SPOT 127 students did a stellar job of capturing the excitement of the Tech Games and what it means to be a
Tech Game Legend, this year's theme. The students were given two weeks following the Tech Games to prepare and submit their media packages for judging. The winning team was selected based on overall creativity, informative, techniques and production quality.
The 2016 winners were Bioscience High School senior Abisade Onasanwo and Maryvale High School senior Stephanie Estrada. They each received a fully loaded Lenovo Ideapad laptop during the
Korva Coleman Excellence Awards honoring youth in journalism and digital media.
Congratulations to Abisade, Stephanie and all the SPOT 127 students for the great reporting of this year's Avnet Tech Games. We look forward to your participation in 2017.
